March 1, 2019 marked the 100th anniversary of the birth of the head of the Lower Don expedition Dmitry Borisovich Shelov, an outstanding researcher in the field of ancient history and archeology, who made a huge scientific contribution to the study of the ancient history of the Lower Don, the Northern Black Sea region and the Bosporus. On his initiative, the first Russian archaeological museum-reserve "Tanais" was established on the territory of the Rostov region in 1961. The exhibition complex of the museum-reserve presents monographs, open sheets, manuscripts and other documents and personal belongings of the famous historian, archaeologist, numismatist and researcher Dmitry Borisovich Shelov.
