Unique Chinese silk from the burials of the Golden Horde nobility

A new exposition "Unique Chinese silk from the burials of the Golden Horde nobility" has been opened in the Exhibition Complex of the Tanais Museum-Reserve. It was developed by senior researchers of the museum Suvorov N.I. and Naumenko S.A. – the author of archaeological research in 1986-1990 in the interfluve of the Don and Sala, during which unique fabrics were discovered. The designer of the exhibition is the artist–restorer Kaplich O.G.

The dominant feature of the exhibition is a well-preserved set of clothes of a noble woman of the Golden Horde period made of Chinese silk, brocade and taffeta: fragments of a shirt, stockings, trousers, shawls, a robe and a fur coat. And also a skirt from a male burial of the XIV century. Fabrics of such preservation are truly unique. This collection is the only one in our region and is being exhibited for the first time. The exhibition presents scientific reconstructions of the clothes of Doctor of Historical Sciences Dode Z.V. Reconstructions of horse harness and saddle are made by A.I. Garmashov.

Items from 19 burial complexes of the XII-XIV centuries will help to create an atmosphere of the epoch and lifestyle of the late nomads: jewelry, toilet items, weapons, horse harness, tools, dishes, signs of power. As well as the musical design of the exhibition – the ancient Mongol song of the XIII century "Wind and Arrow" (harp, throat singing).
